The Supreme Court has refused to quash the CBI FIR filed against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family in the alleged land-for-jobs case. A bench comprising Justices M.M. Sundresh and N. Kotiswar Singh granted exemption to the 77-year-old leader from appearing before the trial court.
The Court said it would not examine the applicability of Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act at this stage, adding that Lalu Prasad Yadav is free to raise the issue during the trial. Earlier, on March 24, the Delhi High Court had also declined to quash the FIR and related proceedings.
In a separate matter, the Supreme Court issued notice to the Centre on a public interest litigation challenging provisions of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, which amend Section 8(1)(j) of the RTI Act. The petitions contend that Section 44(3) of the law is unconstitutional.
