Higher Qualification Not a Shortcut to Govt Jobs: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has ruled that merely holding a higher educational qualification or securing a higher position in the merit list does not automatically make a candidate eligible for a government job. Candidates must strictly fulfill the experience criteria prescribed under the Recruitment and Promotion Rules, which are mandatory.

A bench comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and AS Chandurkar raised concerns over the recruitment process for the post of Computer Hardware Engineer at the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education. The selected candidate reportedly had only one year of work experience, whereas the rules required a minimum of five years.
