Supreme Court to Hear AIFF Related Petitions on April 5th

On April 5, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a group of petitions related to various issues concerning the All India Football Federation (AIFF).

These include objections that have been raised to certain aspects of the AIFF’s draft constitution. The list of business that has been uploaded on the apex court’s website indicates that a bench comprising Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, Justice P S Narasimha, and Justice J B Pardiwala will be hearing these petitions, including the one that has been filed by the AIFF.

The petitions were brought to the court’s attention by senior advocate Rahul Mehra, who had previously filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) on the matter in the Delhi High Court. This request for an urgent hearing was made by Mehra on March 27. The issues at hand are likely to be of great significance to the AIFF and the broader Indian footballing community, as they pertain to the governance and functioning of one of the country’s most important sporting bodies.

Given the importance of these issues, it is expected that the Supreme Court will take a careful and considered approach to the matter. The involvement of such senior judges in the proceedings is an indication of the seriousness with which the court is likely to treat these petitions. It is hoped that the court will be able to provide clarity and guidance on these matters, which will be of great benefit to all those involved in the Indian footballing community.
