Lucknow Bench Directs FIR Against Rahul Gandhi Over Alleged Dual Citizenship

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has directed that an FIR be registered against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in connection with the alleged dual citizenship controversy.
The court observed on Friday that once the FIR is filed, the state government may seek assistance from any central agency for investigation if required. The order was passed by a bench headed by Justice Subhash Vidyarthi on a petition filed by Karnataka BJP worker S. Vignesh Shishir.
Earlier, the petitioner had filed a complaint against Rahul Gandhi before the MP-MLA court in Rae Bareli in 2025. On December 17, 2025, the case was transferred to Lucknow following a High Court order. Subsequently, on January 28, 2026, the special court dismissed the plea seeking registration of an FIR, citing lack of jurisdiction.
